Cross Stitch Shops in Toronto, Canada.

    Hi.

Next month [23thrd of April] I'm going to visit my brother in Toronto, Canada.
Now I would like to know if there are any shops.
    Or in the neighbourhood.
I will have my brother to drive me around the place.

    Hope you can help me.

    Bye.

I don't live or shop in Toronto (I am a 5 hour drive away in Ottawa). I know that Herrschnerrs has opened a store in Toronto (not sure where) but if you check out their website www.herrschnerrs.ca you will find the store address. There is also the Mary Maxim (www.marymaxim.com) store in Paris, Ontario (which is outside Toronto - maybe an hours drive depending where you are in Toronto). Gitta's is located in Mississauga (suburb of Toronto), I haven't been there but I have ordered from her and several friends highly recommend going there. I will send you a pm with her website.

I will e-mail some friends in the Toronto area and get back to you on any other shops.

Sorry I did mean to respond sooner.

    Louise.
    You made my day.
    So please don't feel sorry.
I'm planning to visit the shop in Mississauga.
I know where that is, because I visited my brother years ago, when he lived there.
He now lives downtown Toronto. And he has another house in Campbellville.
Thank you again for all the info.

I've not been to Toronto for cross stitch shopping, either. I was hoping that some folks would reply and I would find out some good stores, too.

So this is just info I've gathered in previous searches. You should contact these places to confirm hours, etc.

    Golden Threads Imports, Hamilton:
    http://www.gthreads.com/

    The Stitcher's Place, Cambridge:
    http://www.stitchersplace.com/pages/home.htm

    Timeless Treasures, London:
    http://www.ttreasures.ca/main.html

    Thread & Eye, London:
    http://www.threadneye.com/

Here's a neat thing: do a search for "cross stitch shops Toronto Ontario" and see this:
    http://maps.google.ca/maps?f=q&sourc...e=UTF8&t=h&z=9

You might want to try the same thing for the different cities surrounding Toronto, like Mississauga, Oshawa, etc.

The Herrschners store is in Kitchener, not Toronto:
    http://www.herrschners.ca/retailstore.aspx

    And Gitta's in Mississauga:
    http://www.gittas.com/

    Hi Virginie

I am from Toronto, and I have to tell you, there isn't a whole lot here. Surrounding areas like hamilton, Guelph, Miss, etc... you will find a small, or large shop in these places, you will also find a Mary Maxims, in Toronto, and a Michaels, Michaels has a few locations, Highway 7 and , Mary Maxims has their head shop In London I think, and the one I go to is at the corner of Eglington and Young, it's a small mall, under the road, next to the subway, I can pm directions to you if you want. I go there for almost everything, I don't have a car, so getting to any of the far places, well lets just say I don't get out much, LOL!! Mary's has got all of the DMC thread, and Thread Effects, linen thread, the new shiny one, but they will be in boxed sets, unlike the regular stuff. They have lots of kits, and lots of other crafting stuff, lots of beads, and if you are looking for bead and imbellishments they got a fab place downtown for it, I love it, it's called the Bead Cafe, it's nice, got quite alot of beady type places in T.O. Fabric is another matter, I usually import mine from the UK, it's hard to find linen, you won't find much at Mary's, nor at Michaels. You'll find alittle aida, not a huge selection of colour. Ecru, beige, white, etc.. You might get lucky and get red, or navy blue, I've seen it happen. I know Walmart sells Anchor threads, and have kits, and hoops, and stuff like that, not a whole lot. There used to be a really fab little shop on Lawrence, but they went out of business. Mostly I order off the internet, for stuff like linen, silk, hand dyed thread, etc... I hope you have a wonderful visit, it's just starting to warm up alittle, and If you have a car, you will definately find some nice shops in the surrounding towns, and cities. Have fun, and if you find some really cool places, let me know where they are, LOL!!! If you need further clarification, just let me know, take care,
    Glittergirl

    Hi Glittergirl.

Thank you too, for all the information.
I will write all the info down and take it with me. Printing is better.
That little mall you are talking about, is that Eaton's Centre?
    Or another one.
Well, I guess I will put my walking shoes on then.
And for some other places I will let my brother drive me.

    Thanks again.

    Bye.

    Hi there,

No it is not the Eaton Centre, that is at Yonge and Bloor. The one I am talking about it at Yonge and Eglington, the name of the mall is duh, haha, the Yonge Eglington Centre. The address is 2300 Yonge Street. It's underground, it's a cool corner, lots of stuff to look at, lots of good food, and candies, etc... and the Mary Maxims head office is actually is Paris Ontario, so that will be a nice drive, and you will need a drive to any of the Michaels too, they are usually quite far away from the city. What part of the city are you going to be in? I hope you have a great time, good luck!!!

That is a great list bquilt, unfortunately, none of them are actually in Toronto, that's not true, Kate's place is new, and that one is, I haven't been there yet, but am going next weekend, I spotted it on the bus a week or to ago, as for the rest of them, they are quite a distance from T.O, and we do have a great bus system that would take you to each and every one of the places on your list. The Mary Maxims in Toronto, will special order things for you too, and apparently they have a huge shop in there head office in Paris Ontario, which is apparently supposed to be loaded with stuff, have not been myself. When I check out Kate's place, I'll let you know how it is. It's very exciting to know there is a new place, I for one cannot believe that that's all we have here, in a city this big, it just blows me away!!! I hear Gitta's is supposed to be very nice too. Well, thanks for the list, take care,

Yes, I know those shops aren't in Toronto. I put their locations after each one's name. Depending on how many miles you're willing to drive, they aren't "far away" though.

I used to live in TO and worked at University & Richmond. Would walk over to the Eaton's Centre at lunch.....on nice days.

I went to the Mary Maxim store in Paris years ago, when plastic canvas was all the rage. I've still got a lot of those kits I bought still in their packaging. Unfortunately, what was so popular and irrestible in the 1980's isn't too thrilling nowadays.

Pretty amazing the lack of cross stitch shops in such a large city as Toronto, isn't it?

And now that I'm not in TO, finding shops up here is an even more daunting challenge.

I know of two shops: 1. The Enchanted Needle on Steeles Ave. West and
    2. The Sampler on the Brown's Line.

I've been to both these shops and the people are great. Hope this helps you and enjoy our city!!!

    Excellent. Thanks.

    2. The Sampler on the Brown's Line.
Can't find a website for it, but the address seems to be
    598 Brown's Line (416-255-4410)

Just found this one....not "cross stitch" but sells threads and beads:

    Hi bquilt,

Where about do you live now? I forgot about the enchanted needle, never been there, but here it's very nice. If you don't have a car, even Steeles Ave can feel like another country, , I got stuck once at highway 7 with my very young son at that time, seems like the bus goes there, but takes a very different route back, and I didn't bother to check, and nobody bothered to tell me when I stepped off the bus in what I thought was Idaho, LOL!! It cost me about 60 bucks in a taxi to get us home. That was a Michaels. I am going to try and suss out all these places in the next few weeks, the ones in Toronto any ways, and if there is anything I can get you bquilt, just let me know, I can send it to you no problem. Take care
    Charlie

    Rose Welcome to Canada

I do not live in Toronto, but Gitta's in Port Credit is a great store.

There is always Michael's Craft Store and they have almost every week 40% off on regular priced items.
