Persian yarn

Can anyone tell me more about 'Persian yarn'? I'm stitching a wonderful pattern from BH&G, and it says i need
'Ecru Persian yarn' and 'Off white Persion yarn'. The pattern does not give a colour number.

Is this wool? And is it DMC?
I found Tapestry Wool at DMC, but is that the same?

Such a lot of questions for 2 strands........... :]
