Hello,

I recently bought DMC Floss number 407 and i noticed that under the code it has 3773 in brackets. Please could someone tell me what this means?

Thanks

Somebody correct me if I am wrong, but in my opinion it is floss formerly know as 3773 i.e. DMC has changed the numbering.

Hi Jade,
From what I understand, what that means is that DMC decided to 'combine' those two numbers. I have a few like that also, for eaxmple 731 and 732. They do this when they create a color that they later decide is too close to another color and they get rid of one of the colors and 'replace' it. There are a few colors like this that they have gotten rid of. It is a little frustrating when a pattern calls for a number that no longer exists....

Ok, so if i was stitching a pattern that asked for 3773 i would have to use 407 because thats the closest shade to it?

Unless you don't have 3773 in your stash or you happen to find it from somewhere.

Unless you want to switch brands. I know some people will look up the conversion of DMC to Anchor when a DMC color is not available. Then, for that one thread, they will use Anchor. I have not done this myself as Anchor is twice as much and not readily available.
I think it depends on your preference. I am the only one who will know that there has been a modification to one of my charts. I do try to follow them as closely as possible, but for me, I just go with the replacement color.
Hope this helps. :)

Oh I hope that dosent happen when I come to stitch some of the charts I have. They say to use DMC and alot of them use colours that are very close in shade. If this dose happen i could be missing some shades for my designs.
Fingers crossed for the future

The colour card from DMC (USA) still shows 407 (dk desert sand), and also 3773 (md desert sand).

Weren't some colours discontinued in the UK quite some time ago?

This means that 407 has replaced 3773. I found this information at Gloria and Pat Designs (http://www.gloria-pat.com/resources/dmc_disc_floss.html).
