Can use it for cross stitch? I never use pearle floss before. If can use, what's difference between regular dmc floss?

Hello Coleen
Mum has used this do do a cross stitch (actually a ufo at the moment), she took a long stitch kit and it matched the colours up of the perle to the wool. It's a much thicker cotton to normal dmc cotton as you don't split it, so you would to use a much larger type of aida or plastic canvas. Her's is looking good hopefully she'll get it finished one day LOL.
Hope this helps a little bit.

Depends on what weight of perle you are talking of.

But in theory I wouldn't recommend perle unless you stitch on very low count fabric or on plastic canvas.

It's difference for regular embroidery floss is that it is thicker, comes in cakes and has only one strand.

DMC Perle cotton comes in 4 sizes of thickness, no12 is the finest,no8 next, no5 then no3 being the thickest and they are usually used for special stitches on band samplers, such as Rhodes Hearts or Algerian Eyes. They are not normally used to cross stich because they cannot be split and would be quite bulky on fabric. Even on plastic canvas they would work out quite expensive as they cost more to buy than normal floss.:flower:

Got it. I didn't know they have four sizes. Ok, I guess I better not buy this time. They're on sale for 1 dollar each but I should get familiarize what to use, should do or shouldn't do, etc. Thanks for all your help. If anyone has more to tell than what's not on the thread, please do tell me more. I appreciate it very much.

I've never worked with this but, it sounds as if it can be used on fingertip towels? Yes, no, maybe???

I forgot to mention that it cost mum a fair bit to get all the cotton together to do her horses, she's not over struck on long stitch but loved the horse, they look good will have to get her to get it out and see if she'll let me take a picture of it to show you all, I think she used no 3 or it could be no 5, will ask her.

I know that there was a fair bit of frogging at one stage as she had used the wrong colour and then she'd put stitches in the wrong place, I learnt words I'd never heard before LOL.

My DD brought me 1 skein of silk from her trip to China last year, it is made up like the Perle cotton you are talking of. I used it to make Ellens small pin cushion, which you can see in my gallery. I think it was comparable to No. 12 and once I got used to it, it worked out fine :]
