I was looking at some conversion charts and floss sites tonight and I wondered. Is J&P Coats floss even sold anymore? Many of us have some of this floss and there are conversion charts all over the place for it but it is NOT listed in the Coats site. Only Anchor is listed there.

I noticed that there was some company merging in recent years and that same company had J&P Coats, Anchor, Susan Bates, Aynt Lydia, Red Heart & TLC. That is just in the one area. I saw elsewhere that Fiskars is part of the same company as well.

With all they have, it appears that they have dropped all other floss except Anchor.

That means those conversion charts of of dubious use except to convert charts to a usable brand of floss.

Does anybody know when they stopped making the floss?

Yes.

I'm in the Mother Lode area of the Sierra foothills of northern California, USA. The local grocery/hardware store (Treat's, in business over 150 years) is a stone's throw from here. J&P Coats is stocked in the hardware/housewares section. It's not 50-year-old stock. They get new stuff in. The new stuff has *2* color numbers on it. One is the old Coats & Clark's number. The other is 4-digits. I've not yet compared numbers to other brands (i.e. Anchor).

The last time I'd checked was when I'd need a variegated floss. The J&P Coats is *not* the same as the DMC. I got one of each variegated, just to have them on hand, along with all of the DMC variegated and variations from 50 miles away in the next county.

Thanks gals. I don't actually need it. I normally use DMC and can readily get it from Wal-Mart & Hobby Lobby (same shopping center :]). I just wondered because some of my stuff is very old and others newer with the double-number. My newer stuff even says what the "similar" color number to use for DMC.

It's just funny that it is not in the Coats web site that I could find. Then again, I could not find an Anchor Tapestry Wool to Floss conversion on their site either.

It's nice to know that these conversion charts still have a use other than old patterns.
